Privacy policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
This policy explains what information the Mealeaf mobile app ("Mealeaf", "the app") collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. Mealeaf is provided by Blyno LLC, a New Mexico (USA) limited liability company ("we", "us"). On the Apple App Store, Mealeaf is published under DBXLAB LTD, which is part of Blyno LLC; this policy applies the same way there, and "we" includes DBXLAB LTD. If you have a question, write to skiappinc@gmail.com.
The short version
- We collect what the app needs to work: your account, your food preferences, and what you save, plan and buy.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Ads are shown by Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, the app asks for your consent first; Mealeaf Pro removes ads.
- Anonymous usage analytics can be turned off in Profile.
- You can delete your account and all its data from inside the app at any time.

1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account: your email address and password (the password is stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider), and the display name you choose.
- Profile and preferences: household size, cuisines you like, diet style, allergies and ingredients to avoid, preferred proteins and meal types, cooking time, budget, and optional calorie and protein targets. These are planning preferences you choose; we do not ask for medical information.
- What you create in the app: saved recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, pantry items and their expiry dates, recipes you mark as cooked, and your private ratings and notes.
- Messages to Chef and any feedback or reports you send about Chef's replies (see section 3).
- Support emails you send us.
Information collected automatically
- Usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase): which screens and features are used, for example "recipe opened" or "meal plan created", with device type, operating system, app version, approximate country and an app-instance identifier. Analytics never includes what you type. You can turn it off in Profile → "Share anonymous usage data".
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): technical details about crashes and errors, linked to a random identifier rather than your name or email.
- Advertising data (Google AdMob) — see section 4.
- Notifications: if you allow notifications, a push token from Firebase Cloud Messaging so we can send announcements. Meal and grocery reminders and cooking timers are scheduled on your device.
- Purchases: if you subscribe to Mealeaf Pro, the App Store or Google Play processes the payment. We receive the subscription status (product, start, renewal and expiry) through RevenueCat. We never receive your card details.
Stored only on your device
Your Chef conversation history, recently viewed recipes, cooking timers and app settings (such as appearance and notification choices) are kept on your device and are removed when you uninstall the app.
2. How we use it
- To provide the app: your account, recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, pantry and notes, synced across your devices.
- To personalise suggestions, for example to hide recipes with your allergens or build a week that fits your preferences.
- To run Chef and keep it safe and within fair-use limits.
- To provide Mealeaf Pro and check your subscription.
- To show ads to free users and measure them.
- To understand how the app is used, fix bugs and improve features.
- To answer support requests, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations.
Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (providing the app and Pro), your consent (personalised ads where required, notifications, analytics where required), and our legitimate interests (security, fixing crashes, improving the app), which you can object to.
3. Chef (AI assistant)
When you send a message to Chef, the message and the context Chef needs (such as your food preferences, and your pantry or meal plan when you ask about them) are sent to our server and to Google's Gemini API, which generates the reply. Do not include sensitive personal information in your messages.
We do not store your conversations on our servers. We keep: a daily count of your messages (for fair-use limits), a record of the actions Chef performed for you (for example "added 3 items to your grocery list", with the items involved), and any feedback or report you choose to send, which includes an excerpt of the reply you rated. Chef can make mistakes — always check allergens and ingredients yourself.
4. Advertising
Free users see ads from Google AdMob, including an optional short video that unlocks a recipe's remaining steps. Google may collect your device's advertising identifier, IP address and information about your device and ad interactions to show, limit and measure ads, and, where permitted, to personalise them.
- In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, and wherever the law requires it, the app shows Google's consent form before personalised ads. You can change your choice in Profile → Privacy settings.
- On iPhone, the app asks for permission to track before using your advertising identifier (App Tracking Transparency).
- You can reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device settings.
- Mealeaf Pro removes all ads.

5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that process it for us under contract, and when the law requires it.
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosting, database and sign-in (stores your account and app data) |
| Google — Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging) | Usage analytics, crash reports, push notifications |
| Google — AdMob | Ads for free users |
| Google — Gemini API | Generating Chef's replies |
| RevenueCat | Managing Mealeaf Pro subscriptions |
| Apple App Store, Google Play | Payments, downloads, subscription management |
Under some US state laws, letting Google use advertising data to personalise ads may count as "sharing" for targeted advertising. You can opt out through the consent and tracking settings described in section 4, or by subscribing to Pro.
If Blyno LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal, under this policy.
6. How long we keep it
- Account and app data: for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, it is deleted straight away from our live database.
- Database backups kept by our hosting provider roll over and are erased within about 30 days.
- Analytics, crash and advertising data are kept by Google according to its retention settings and policies; they are not linked to your name or email.
- Support emails: as long as needed to help you, and then deleted.
7. Your choices and rights
- See and change your profile and preferences in the app at any time.
- Turn analytics off in Profile; change ad consent in Profile → Privacy settings; turn notifications on or off in Profile → Notifications or your device settings.
- Delete your account and data in the app (see below).
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK, or US states such as California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, to object to or restrict some processing, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of targeted advertising. Email skiappinc@gmail.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Deleting your account
In the app: Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and everything linked to it. If you can no longer use the app, see Delete your account. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription — cancel it in the store first.
9. Children
Mealeaf is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Not medical advice
Nutrition values in Mealeaf are estimates calculated from public food databases, and targets are preferences you set. Mealeaf does not provide medical, dietary or allergy advice. Always check ingredient labels, and talk to a qualified professional about medical or dietary needs.
11. Security and international transfers
Data is encrypted in transit, and access to your data is limited to your own account by row-level security rules on our database. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information. Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries; where required, transfers are protected by safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. Changes and contact
We will update this policy when the app changes how it uses data, and change the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we will tell you in the app.
